Do you love arts and/or sciences? If so, you’re in luck! Keep 2024 is offering a WIDE variety of A&S activities, including classes, competitions, bardics, and more!
Competitions
Each contestant may enter up to 3 items for judging (no minimum). They may enter all in the same category or different categories. The winner will be the one who gets the most total points.
Each item will be judged by rubric on a scale of 0-50. The total points from each judges rubric scoring will be added together and divided by the number of judges (averaged). Additionally, 10 bonus points (per item) may be earned by getting a best in category.
Example: Serpenty McSerpent scored a 35, a 47, and a 43 on his entries. That 47 was a best in armor and that 43 was a best in visual arts for a total number of 145). Fashionista garber chose a different strategy by entering 3 garb items. They somehow also got scores of 35, 47, and 43 and one was the best in garb for a total score of 135. Serpenty won thanks to those bonus points!

- Armor– something a person might wear for armor points per the rules of play.
- Weapons and Shields– items that are field legal for the rules of play as a weapon or shield
- Visual Arts– 2D or 3D art pieces entered for their visual appeal such as awards, paintings, banners, decorations, and sculptures.
- Construction and Function– Entries that have a primary purpose other than visual appeal such as furniture items, puzzles, game items, etc.

This type of entry does not require an additional write up if title, goals, and citations are clear. Feel free to include one (doesn’t count toward word limit) if you are unsure.
- Cooking and Brewing–Scheduled to begin at 10:00am on Friday. Make sure your entry is ready on time. The entrant is responsible for ensuring food/beverages are at a palatable temperature. Food or beverages with some ties to Amtgard, whether that is as a historic recipe recreation or as a food you made for your friends at an event.
Write-Ups
All entries must have a write up that includes at least the following.
Fill in the blank doc here
- Your item’s name and category according to the 8 listed above
- The goals and intent of your item. This section is intended to help with discrepancies in how each kingdom might run A&S. Write what sub-category your item might be in your own kingdom and any project goals that might go beyond that category’s requirements. Examples: If your sword must meet specs for cross gaming, call out those specs. If your court garb is also meant to be machine washable.
- Materials/Ingredients– Include where you got materials if you feel it is relevant. Failure to provide an ingredient list for food/beverage is grounds for an entry being disqualified!
- Works cited– doesn’t need to conform to APA or MLA or anything like that. Do include if you followed a pattern, recipe book, or used someone else’s intellectual property.
Entrants aren’t required but are strongly encouraged to include the following
- Inspiration -if there is a reference to a TV show, book, or other media you should include it. You might add pictures to your write up.
- Anything else you think the judges should know about your piece.
Rubric
Creativity- Did the artist do anything creative, groundbreaking, or that you don’t see all too often? | 11-15 The artist did something that made the judge think “what a great idea!” or showed evidence that they did their research (such as for historically focused items) | 5-10 The item might be based on another person’s work or ideas, but if so it is suitably transformative. | 0-4The artist did not add much of themselves to this project. Examples: kits and mixes just prepared per instructions
Complexity and Difficulty– How much went into the project | 16-20 The entrant “went the extra mile” somehow. May show multiple techniques or have multiple components while still being a cohesive entry | 7-15 The item meets the judge’s expectations of an average level of complexity on this kind of item. | 0-6 The piece is very simple and/or shows little effort.
Workmanship- How skilled would you suppose the entrant is based on this entry? | 11-15 The entrant is clearly skilled in what they do. There are no flaws that really take away from the entry. | 5-10 There’s a few mistakes here and there, but nothing that ruins the entry. | 0-4 The entry shows several errors or there is a critical error that greatly detracts from the item’s purpose (if it has one) |
